What Makes Ono Seafood Special

Poke and the Origin of the Restaurant’s Name

Ono Seafood
Ono Seafood is a specialty shop serving poke bowls. It is often mistakenly assumed that the shop was opened by Mr. Ono, a Japanese immigrant, but “ono” is a Hawaiian word meaning “delicious.”

The Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority’s Oʻahu food guide also introduces Ono Seafood as a restaurant in the Kapahulu area near Waikīkī. Poke is a Hawaiian dish made from raw fish cut into easy-to-eat pieces and seasoned. It is a casual place to stop during sightseeing, choose your fish and seasoning, and take the meal to go.

Ahi and Octopus Combo

Ono Seafood
During our visit, we ordered the Hawaiian Style Ahi and Shoyu Tako combo. In Hawaiian, “Ahi” means tuna. “Tako” comes from Japanese.

Because you can compare fish and octopus in a single container, you can appreciate the differences in texture and seasoning between the ingredients.
