Highlights of Dole Plantation

Dole Plantation is an agricultural attraction where you can experience the history of Oahu’s pineapple industry and agriculture. It stands on the site of a pineapple farm established by James Dole. It began operating as a fruit stand in 1950 and opened to the public as the “Pineapple Experience” in 1989. As you ride the train and explore the garden and maze, you can enjoy the plantation scenery and tropical plants.

Plantation landscape and the pineapple industry

Dole Plantation
Dole Plantation is operated by Dole, a company famous for its pineapples.

The site presents Hawaii’s history, from pineapple and sugarcane production during the plantation era to agriculture based on a diverse range of crops. At the Country Store, you can browse Hawaiian products and souvenirs, while Plantation Grille offers local dishes and pineapple Dole Whip.

Pineapple Express

Dole Plantation
You can ride the Pineapple Express to explore the plantation.

The Pineapple Express Train Tour is a roughly 20-minute train ride along a course of about 2 miles. As you listen to the onboard narration, you can learn about Hawaii's pineapple industry and follow in the footsteps of James Dole. Outside the windows are fields growing pineapples as well as coffee, cacao, and other crops.

Plantation Garden

The Plantation Garden Tour is a self-guided walk through eight gardens featuring tropical crops, native Hawaiian plants, flowers used in leis, and more. The plants change with the seasons, offering close-up views of their leaves, flowers, and fruit.

Pineapple Garden Maze

The Pineapple Garden Maze is a botanical maze with about 2.5 miles of paths spread across more than 3 acres. Formed from approximately 14,000 Hawaiian plants, it invites visitors to search for eight secret stations hidden throughout the grounds. Unlike the train experience, which offers views across the entire plantation, the maze can be explored on foot.
