Highlights of the Eiffel Tower

From the World’s Fair to a Symbol of Paris

the Eiffel Tower’s iron structure
It was built as a commemorative monument adorning the entrance to the Paris World’s Fair in 1889. The company of engineer Gustave Eiffel undertook the project, and the structure was assembled in approximately 2 years and 2 months. Some artists initially opposed the enormous iron structure, but over time it became a symbol of Paris.

The Eiffel Tower is one of the structures that make up the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Paris, Banks of the Seine.”

The Eiffel Tower viewed from the Champ de Mars
Looking up from the base, you can appreciate the structural beauty of the ironwork converging from its 4 legs toward the observation levels.

Paris viewed from the Eiffel Tower
Move a little away from the base of the tower toward the lawn to see its overall outline and the structure at its foot together.

How Paris looks from each observation level

From the first 1 observation deck, you can look down on the base of the tower and the Champ de Mars from a close angle, while the second 2 observation deck makes it easier to understand the relative positions of major landmarks such as the Seine, the Palais de Chaillot, the Arc de Triomphe, and Montmartre. The top floor is a place to appreciate the city’s overall expanse rather than the details of the building. If you go up before sunset, you can also enjoy the transition from the bright cityscape to the night view.
