トロッコ嵯峨駅

Highlights of Torokko Saga Station

Torokko Saga Station is the starting and terminal station for the Sagano Torokko trains operated by the Sagano Scenic Railway. Its brick-style station building is next to Saga-Arashiyama Station on the JR Sagano Line. There are ticket counters for the train and for Hozugawa River boat rides, and you can enjoy railway exhibits before or after your journey.

Diorama Kyoto JAPAN

Kyoto cityscape and railway models at Diorama Kyoto JAPAN
At Diorama Kyoto JAPAN, located beside the station, various HO-scale model trains run through a large layout that faithfully recreates Kyoto’s temples, shrines, and cityscape. From above, you can look out over the city as a whole, with its stations, tracks, roads, and buildings, while watching multiple trains pass one another.

The tracks are laid out not only on a single level but also combine elevated sections and tunnels. The three-dimensional layout, with trains running at different heights, is another highlight.

19Century Hall

19 steam locomotives lined up in Century Hall
19 Century Hall displays steam locomotives that supported the history of railways, conveying how they looked at the time. You can observe the black-bodied locomotives up close, including types D51 and C58. The hall also displays a grand piano and a large organ; a distinctive feature is that railway and musical culture are presented in the same space.

It is about 5 minutes on foot from JR Saga-Arashiyama Station on the Sagano Line, and about 5 minutes from Randen Saga Station on the Randen Arashiyama Main Line of the Keifuku Electric Railway. From Arashiyama Station on the Hankyu Arashiyama Line, it is about 20 minutes on foot. If you combine your visit with sightseeing in Arashiyama, checking the line you will use and the station locations in advance will make getting around easier.

By car

The area around the station is prone to congestion from Arashiyama sightseeing, so the official guidance recommends using public transportation. If you travel by car, check the day’s traffic restrictions and the operating status of nearby parking facilities in advance.
